The Nuclear Culture Research Group in partnership with the Critical Ecologies research stream at Goldsmiths invites CHASE researchers to participate in the symposium ‘Decolonising the Nuclear’ on 22 and 23 October 2019. We are interested in current research into the wider implications of nuclear decoloniality which may include: creative resistance and indigenous rights within the theory and practice of extraction politics; or the impact of Cold War histories on nuclear colonialism, from nuclear modernity to contemporary challenges of decommissioning in post-soviet countries.
Professor Gabrielle Hecht will give a Keynote public lecture on her research into Nuclearity and the Anthropocene, including Uranium as an Interscalar vehicle, establishing a critical framework for analysing nuclear decolonisation. The workshop will include artists and researchers investigating contemporary questions of nuclear decolonisation in Greenland, Australia and India. With film screenings and round table discussions.
