This two-hour session led by Sue Amaradivakara, a very experienced writing industry publicist, is aimed at creative writers who would like a better understanding of the digital marketing landscape, and the session will specifically address the following questions. What expectations does a publisher have for a writer to market their own book and build their brand through social media? How can a writer effectively do so?
The session will include a presentation with real-world examples and conclude with a Q&A. Space is limited to eighteen people and will be allocated first-come, first-served, with priority to creative writing or creative/critical PhDs. The session will be on 5 June, from 4 – 6pm and tea, coffee and snacks will be provided. The venue is in central London and details will be circulated once the session is at capacity but in any event at least two weeks before the session. If the session is successful, we may schedule a follow-up session with another industry expert for the start of the 2019/20 academic year.
About Sue Amaradivakara (PR Collective Co-Founder)
Sue has worked in books and arts publicity for over twenty years. She started out at Penguin Random House, working across various literary imprints. In January 2013 she became an independent publicist and since then has worked with a wide range of high profile clients including Penguin Random House UK and US, Little Brown, Michael O’Mara, Head of Zeus, Bloomsbury, BBC / Penguin Audio books, The Sunday Times / Audible Short Story Award, Melville House, The London Literature Festival, Pushkin Press, No Exit Books and September Publishing.

Non-fiction authors include human rights lawyer Clive Stafford Smith, cookery writer Nigella Lawson, the legendary war photographer Don McCullin, psychoanalyst Stephen Grosz, whose book The Examined Life spent three months in the Sunday Times bestsellers lists; former Guantanamo detainee Ahmed Errachidi, North Korean political exile Jang Jin-sung , whose memoir Dear Leader was a Sunday Times bestseller and several key players from US political landscape including President Obama’s Senior Adviser, David Axelrod, former CIA and NSA chief General Michael Hayden, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Ken Starr.
Sue also spent two years at the independent arts PR agency Colman Getty where she was responsible for the promotion of the Man Booker Prize and The Samuel Johnson Prize for Non Fiction.
At Random House, prior to its merger with Penguin, Sue was publicity director at Vintage working at Cape, the Vintage paperback list, Chatto & Windus, Harvill Secker, Square Peg and Yellow Jersey Press.
